Issue
A session will display as Invalid when it is shorter than 2 minutes, as it does not meet the minimum threshold to be recorded as a valid session.
If your session is displaying as Invalid but lasted longer than 2 minutes, follow the troubleshooting steps below.
Expected Behaviour
When a session has been processed correctly:
- Device Downloads status shows as Finished
- Data is visible and accessible in OpenField
Troubleshooting Steps
Work through the steps below in order. After each step, check whether the session still shows as Invalid before moving to the next.
Step 1 - Reimport the raw files
- Open the Data Transfer tile.
- Select Import Raw, then navigate to the Catapult Sports folder and open Retriever.
- Locate the folder matching the date of the Invalid session.
- Click the folder once to highlight it, then click OK.
The data will be reimported into OpenField.
Step 2 - Redownload the raw files
- Click Show All to display all previously downloaded raw files in the details panel.
- Select the Invalid entries:
- Consecutive entries: Hold Shift and click to select a range.
- Non-consecutive entries: Hold Ctrl and click to select individual files.
- Right-click any selected file and choose Redownload Files.
Reprocessing will begin automatically.
Step 3 - Verify firewall and system settings
Ensure OpenField is permitted through all firewalls and that your computer meets the recommended configuration.

Step 4 - Check for special characters in your username
Special characters in your OpenField username (for example: ä / ç / é / ô) can cause sessions to be flagged as Invalid.
If your username contains any of these characters, please contact Support.
Step 5 - Verify that Python.exe can run
- Navigate to: This PC → Local Disk (C:) → Program Files → OpenField Release → PythonExe
- Double-click Python.exe to open the command window.
If the command window does not open, your firewall may be blocking it.

Step 6 - Disable Controlled Folder Access
Windows' Controlled Folder Access (Ransomware Protection) can prevent OpenField from writing session data correctly.
- Open the Windows Start menu and search for Ransomware Protection.
-
Under Controlled Folder Access, switch the toggle to Off.
