What Data is Imported via the SMT Connection?
Activity metadata and athlete tracking data is imported into your OpenField account via the web and the SMT Connection, based on the data retrieved from the SMT API.
The following Activity metadata is imported and created:
- Activity
- Activity Tag 'SMT Connection' is applied to all SMT Connection imported activities
- Periods
- Athletes are added to Periods
- Individual athlete's on-ice shifts are created as Annotations
- Athletes are added to their relevant Annotations
- The 'Active Segments' provided by SMT are used to create Annotations. These active segments are when a player is on the ice whilst the game clock is running.
The following Athlete tracking data is imported:
- Athlete positional timeseries data (X,Y co-ordinates)
- Aggregate Positional based metrics (such as Total Distance, Max Velocity etc.) are then derived and processed using Catapult processing methods from the imported timeseries data.
Automatic SMT Data Import
When you have set up your SMT Connection, any new data* available for your team (as defined by the Team Id entered in the Connection setup) will be automatically imported and the Activity automatically created.
OpenField Connections will check for new data every 5 minutes. The time required to download data from the SMT API and import and process in OpenField Cloud is approximately 30 minutes per activity.
Athlete data in the SMT API will be matched to athlete profiles in your OpenField account using common PlayerId tags.
For more information on how to create and apply PlayerId tags to athletes as part of adding an SMT Connection, see Applying SMT PlayerId Tags to athletes.
At times, Sports Media Technology may refrain from setting the game to the ApprovedOfficial status for some time in the event they need to 'clean up' or review any of their collected data.
Manually Reimporting SMT Data
It may be necessary to manually reimport SMT Data for Activities created by the SMT Connection.
This may be required if:
- PlayerId tags were not applied to athlete(s) or incorrect PlayerIds were applied to athlete(s)
- Athlete data will only be imported from the SMT API if there is a matching PlayerId applied to an athlete on your OpenField account.
- You wish to reprocess the activity after changing athlete bands or team settings
- Additional metadata for the activity is available to be imported via the SMT Connection
How to Manually Reimport SMT Data from the OpenField Connection
- On OpenField Cloud, navigate to Settings > Activity Admin.
- Select one or more SMT Activities that have been previously imported via the web-based SMT Connection, that you wish to reimport SMT data for.
Note: it is not possible to reimport any SMT data that was imported via OpenField Console using this method.
- Click on the dropdown that appears in the top left corner indicating how many activities you have selected.
- Click Reimport from Connection.
- Click Confirm to confirm reimporting of the # selected activities that are previously imported SMT Activities.
If you have selected an activity that was not created/imported from the web-based SMT Connection, no changes to this activity or its data will occur.
- Data will be automatically reimported for any activity selected that was previously created/imported from the web-based SMT Connection. The time required to download data from the SMT API and import and process in OpenField Cloud is approximately 30 minutes per activity.
