Mapping the Venue
- Using one GPS device per corner of the venue, turn the device on, ensuring GPS lock is established (solid green LED) and leave the device in the corner of the pitch for a period of 5 minutes.
- Note down the Device ID that was used to record the coordinates of each corner.
Downloading the Sensor CSV (Longitude and Latitude)
- Insert the devices into the dock and open the Data Transfer window and complete the data download.
- In the Data Transfer window, Stop Transfer, select Show All and Export CSV, select the appropriate Device ID's, right click and Reprocess.
This will generate a .CSV will that can be found through the following pathway:
C:\Users\User Name\Documents\Catapult Sports\OpenField\Analytics\CSV\Year\Month\Day
Latitude and Longitude
- Open the .CSV file and navigate to the Latitude and Longitude column.
- Sort the Latitude or Longitude by Sort A to Z.
- Check the Latitude and Longitude values are consistent.
- Take the top values as your coordinates for Latitude and Longitude, in the below example 57.1496337, -2.2580143.
Import the Latitude and Longitude in Google Earth
- Search the Latitude and Longitude from each Device ID's .CSV file in Google Earth. The location will be marked with a dropped pin.
- Select the search coordinates from the left-hand menu, select the drop-down menu and click Save to My Places. The coordinates will save under the Places window in the left-hand menu.
- Select the coordinates under Places and rename to represent the corner of the pitch e.g. Football Pitch: Top Right.
- Repeat this process for each of the Latitude and Longitude coordinates from each device.
- Create a new folder for the venue under the Places window on the left-hand side and move all the corner locations into that folder.
- Right-click on the selected venues folder, Save Place As > Save as Type > Kml (*.kml) > Save.
Importing the .kml file into the OpenField Console
- Navigate to the OpenField Console, select Start from the main console tile screen.
- Navigate to Settings and then select the Field tab.
- Click the New Venue button. Type in the name of the Venue under Venue. Select OK.
- From the Venue and Field boxes, click the Field Type from the Field drop down menu. Note: If you want to use a graphic overlay of the screen in OpenField, please set the Field Type to Test.
- From the Position Sources box, click the Google tab.
- Select Google Earth Import.
- Find and select the newly created venue .KML file.
- Select Open.
- The Place marker Names will appear under the Google Earth Import button. Select a Place marker from this list to highlight it in orange (i.e. Bottom Left).
- From the Mapped box, click the box that correlates to the Place marker name. (i.e. Bottom Left will correlate to the Bottom Left box). A selected mapped box will populate the Place marker name under the Position title.
- Repeat steps 7 to 10 until all the place markers are mapped.
- Select Done.
- The Field will populate on the right side of the Field Menu with the newly created Place markers.
- Close the Settings Menu.
