This article provides a comprehensive guide for customers using a Vector 8 system. It covers the entire data workflow, from uploading device data via the dock to monitoring the final processing status in the OpenField Cloud.
How Data Uploads from the Dock
Vector 8 device data uploads occur as soon as you plug your devices into a web-connected, powered-on dock. See the Hardware tab in the Catapult Vector app to check Dock internet connection.
- Download to Dock: Files are first downloaded from the device to the dock's internal memory.
- Upload to Cloud: The dock then automatically uploads each raw file to the OpenField Cloud.
- Merged into Activities: The uploaded raw data is merged into activities which are either synced from a live session or grouped based on time. Any raw files within 2 hours will automatically be merged into the same activity.
The End-to-End Data Workflow
The specific steps you take will depend on whether or not you ran a live session.
Scenario A: If you ran a live session
- Sync Live Data: First, sync your OpenField Console or Vector Live App. This uploads the initial activity structure, periods, and in the console: live metrics. Important: When synced from the console you will see all the live collected data across Reporting and Timeline.
- Upload Device Data via the Dock:
- Connect your devices to the dock. A pulsing white, "North LED" confirms that a file is being downloaded to the dock from any devices.
- Important: Confirm in the Catapult Vector app that all raw files have Completed their upload. To check the progress of Uploads, navigate to the Raw file uploads section, in the More tab of the app. Once processed, this raw data overwrites the initial live metrics and adds new post-session parameters (e.g., IMA).
- You can use the web editor to make changes to your activity as soon as the file upload from the dock is complete, even if the initial cloud processing has not yet finished. You can also sync the raw data back to the console at this point if you wish to review your activity from there.
- Monitor Processing in the Cloud: After the upload from the dock begins and the first raw file hits the web, the processing status will appear in the top-right corner of the OpenField Cloud. Once complete, this will become Processing history, which means that all data that is in the cloud has finished processing. Make sure to check the Catapult Vector app to ensure all your raw data has been uploaded. Important: Only cloud processing will show in the web so any local processing done by the Console will not show in the processing history.
Scenario B: If you did not run a live session (Record-Only)
- Upload Device Data via the Dock:
- Connect your devices to the dock. A pulsing white, "North LED" confirms that a file is being downloaded to the dock from any devices.
- Important: Confirm in the Catapult Vector app that all raw files have Completed their upload. To check the progress of Uploads, navigate to the Raw file uploads section, in the More tab of the app.
Important: Only cloud processing will show in the web so any local processing down by the Console will not show in the processing history.
- Edit Periods Post-Upload: When no live session is run, the system automatically creates a single period containing all athletes. While you don't have to edit this, it is highly recommended to go to the editor and break the session down into more specific periods for accurate analysis and reporting. This can be completed as soon as all uploads are shown as Completed in the app.
Understanding Catapult Vector Device Upload Status
- With Vector 8 Dock connected to the internet, each Wearable Device raw file will begin automatically uploading to the account your Dock is registered to.
- See the Hardware tab in the Catapult Vector app to check Dock internet connection.
- To check the progress of Uploads, navigate to the Raw file uploads section, in the More tab of the app once the dock is online.
- Once at least 1 file upload has been detected a new date entry will be added for the date the Raw File was recorded on.
- The numbers in each row represent # Files Uploaded / # Files Detected
- For example, 10 / 30 indicates 10 files have completed upload out of a detected 30
- For example, 10 / 30 indicates 10 files have completed upload out of a detected 30
- Pressing a date opens up the upload info page, where each individual device and its upload status is displayed, sorted by device ID.
- Upload Status:
- Uploading - File upload in progress
- Completed - File upload is complete
- Error - An error has occurred in the file upload process
Understanding Cloud Process Status
At any stage you can click on the processing status tag to view a status of all your activities processed in the last 48 hours. The tags have the following statuses:
- Processing history (Grey Tag): This will show on all pages in Openfield if all data received by the Cloud has finished processing. Please ensure you have confirmed in the Vector app that all devices have completed their upload.
- Processing (Orange Tag): The Cloud is actively processing data. The activity is not yet finalized. Any edits made in the web editor will re-trigger this processing status.
- Processing Failed (Red Tag/Red Badge): An error occurred, often because athletes are not assigned to periods. Check this in the Editor to re-trigger the process. If the issue persists, contact support.
- Last Processed (Green Tag): All data received by the cloud has been processed for the individual activity in the Activity processing history screen.
